First, students are tested to find the level that he or she will start at. Next, students get a spelling folder that contains their own individual list of words that he or she will work through as the year progresses. Students are then paired up with a spelling buddy who is at a similar level. On Mondays the students create their new spelling list of 20 words based on where they left off the previous week. On Fridays, the spelling buddies are responsible for giving their partner the test. Students receive their Friday test on the following Monday and must put any word they got incorrect back on the list for the next week as part of their 20 words. The goal is to master their words as they move through their packet.
